I am ecstatic that Quiltmaker Magazine selected the Bicycle Path block for Volume 11 in their 100 Blocks series -- both digital and traditional print copies.

Bicycle Path is a wonderful block for incorporating cute little designs found in novelty prints. This is Block #1079 on page 52.
Because we are fussy cutting little pieces, it helps to create a little window to make sure you are getting the exact motif you desire. To do this you will need to gather a pen, a piece of paper, and a 3 1/2" square ruler.
Draw a square around the outside edge of the 3 1/2" ruler. Mark points 1 1/2" in from each corner on all four sides. Then draw lines as shown to create a smaller on-point square within the 3 1/2" square.
Cut out the 3 1/2" square along the outer lines.
Now, cut out the smaller on-point square using the drawn lines as your guide.
Now tape the cut piece of paper to the back side of the 3 1/2" square ruler. You now have a window to assist in your cutting.
See the cute little fox peeking through the window? :-)
Cut out eight 3 1/2" squares of fabric containing cute little pictures in the center.
Place a 2" square on the upper left-hand corner of a 3 1/2" square. Sew diagonally as shown.
Trim both fabrics approximately 1/4" beyond the sew line.
Press seam toward corner.
Repeat with same fabric for the lower right-hand corner.
Use alternate fabric color for top-right and lower-left corners. Make 8 squares.
Using the 2 3/8" squares, sew half-square triangles as shown on page 83 in the magazine. You can also simply cut these squares in half diagonally and sew them together to form the squares. But, only use the latter technique if you sew with a very accurate seam allowance. Press seams toward darker colors.
Trim dog ears. Make 16 of each color.
Sew a green half square triangle unit to an orange half square triangle unit. Press seam open. Make 16 units.
Sew triangle units to the top and bottom of a cute little design square.
Press seams open.
Sew 4 units together to make a row. Make 2 rows.
Sew two rows together to finish the block. (I love these cute little guys!)
But, then again, I love all kinds of bright and happy fabrics as you will notice if you peruse my patterns.
Thanks for stopping by on the blog tour.
Happy Quilting!
Marcia
P.S. -- Make sure to collect previous issues of Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks to enjoy more than a thousand different 12" blocks. What an amazing resource! I had the pleasure of having two other blocks appear in Volumes 7 and 8. So much fun! :-) Thank you Quiltmaker Magazine!
