A great big thank you to the team at Quiltmaker's Magazine for selecting my Tree of Love as Block #705 located on page 24 in Quiltmaker's 100 Block Volume 8!
All of the fun whimsical circles were made using the plastic "Perfect Circles" by Karen Kay Buckley.
Step 1 -- Select fabric with small, happy prints.
Step 2 -- Select a circle size to fit your small print and use a marker to draw a circle around the plastic template. (I like the Frixion pens. The ink is removed with heat or friction.)
Step 3 -- Trim approximately 1/4" beyond the drawn line.
Step 4 -- Sew a running stitch midway around the seam allowance.
Step 5 -- Turn the fabric upside down and place the plastic circle on top of the wrong side of the fabric. Pull on the thread and the seam allowance will gather around the circle.
Step 6 -- Spray the fabric and circle with spray starch and press with a hot iron. (I cover my ironing board with a piece of scrap fabric to prevent build up or stains on my board cover.)
Step 7 -- Snip the thread and gently pull out the plastic circle. Give the unit another quick press with the iron.
Step 8 -- Your happy little circle with perfectly turned-under edges is now ready to be stitched onto the block.
Happy Quilting!
